Next Level is one of our favourite local locations and features one of our favourite rooms – Read our review of The Graveyard at Next Level. Despite this room having a lot of colour in it, they builders have tried to make it accessible by labeling the colours or giving you alternative ways to solve them.
I will say that although it’s called Candy Land and the description would have you believe it’s about candy, it is definitely more of a bakery themed room. If that still satisfies your desire for a sweet escape, then, continue!
The room is very well made with near 360 degree immersion (walls, floors, ceilings, and lighting). Next Level really does seem to focus on immersive structures in their rooms and paying attention to the top and bottoms of their rooms – not just the sides.
The puzzle were all appropriately themed and well thought out. They all made sense and were a good challenge. Movement through the room and between the puzzles was logical. It’s a pretty big space but the way it’s divided I wouldn’t want more than 5 people in there. Though we completed it as a pair, it would be very helpful to have at least three people in the room.
The only thing missing there would be deeper audio cues which would be hard considering you’re breaking into a bakery at night. Could be street noise outside, the jingle of a bell on the door as a time marker… I think there are also a few finishes that would be an easy upgrade from wood that would help round it all out. The final piece that I would add to this room is a cake or sweet scented air freshener to complete the immersion.
A good room although not our favourite at the location. However, the theme is strong and well done and we think it’s worth a shot!
