With my first ever escape room being completed at Escape from the 6, I was really excited to finally get back here to complete Volcano Views. I remember hearing rumors from staff while this was being built but I never could’ve guessed the amount of effort that went into this room.
The environment is really well made with probably the most number of spaces I’ve seen in an escape room. I have to be careful to not spoil any surprises. This experience begins in an aircraft where your team is strapped into seats. As you watch the clouds and water pass by outside the window and feel the shake of the fuselage, you could swear you’re actually in a plane that’s taking you to another destination – and then something goes wrong… You’ll find yourself outside in a jungle where you’ll need to find a way to be rescued before the volcano erupts.
To count the number of unique elements in this room would be very hard. There are no traditional locks – everything is electronic or even purely physical puzzles. The puzzles all match the theme and story very well though in a couple of places I think they could’ve gone a bit further with the final touches. And one room had puzzles that made sense but why we were there didn’t. Be prepared for a good variety of challenges.
The space is large. We completed the room as a duo with 5 minutes to spare but 4 is definitely ideal. 5 would be great as well in this space and there’s enough that 6 people could handle this room – and we don’t say that often. In this room, 6 players may even be a bit more fun. This experience is very physical! You are in a plane, by a volcanic mountain, trying to be rescued by a helicopter.
There are well made intro and outro videos that probably can’t be consistently reproduced by actors considering the large number of staff at this location. The hint system is delivered in person which always breaks emersion. I don’t see why you can’t have a radio in the airplane that maintains contact with “the control tower” or “rescue crew” for hints. We also had an issue where some electronic items didn’t trigger properly and we had to wait for some automated visuals to play out before we could continue with the next steps. Definitely that trigger needs to be fixed and that waiting time should be shortened.
Ultimately, this is another fantastic unique experience by Escape from the 6. They love to build multi-leveled rooms that take you beyond that flat experience of most rooms. They also did a great job with the technology in ways I haven’t seen before.
Go book it now and if you can, bring 6 people!
