Captive Kids is located right beside Captive in Mississauga. As escape room enthusiasts, we’re so happy to be able to bring our kids to enjoy the experience with us. The difficulty was perfect for our kids aged 10 to 17 with minimal escape room experience. Of course, we were there to help them along and although I didn’t think I was helping too much, we ended up beating the record!

Although our standard criteria would end up with this room being rated a bit lower, I’ve overridden the overall score here to represent how I think kids would enjoy this room. But, not too much. After all, you are playing the same price as you would for some of the most immersive rooms around and not a kids price.

You’ll start off split into two different groups to start and each group needs to pull their weight to get out of the cells. We found that there was overall a good attention to immersion and detail with thoughtful props and decor. However, it was missing some of the final touches other similar rooms would have like matching floors and ceiling, ambient lighting and sound, and other immersive effects.

The puzzles were easy enough for a group of kids to figure out (ours range from 10 to 17) but overall younger groups will benefit from an adult nudging them in the right direction.

The story line was clear and you progress fairly logically through the room. However, the introduction and wrap up of the story was very light. I think kids would appreciate a host in a pirate hat with a plastic sword confronting them as they come out of the final door. Again, you’re paying the same price as rooms that offer that sort of immersion.

Overall, a great room and a great experience that you should definitely bring your kids to. Ours loved it (and we did too!)
